Tuckett is considered one of the central figures of the Golden Age of Mountaineering, being hailed by Edward Whymper as: “that mighty mountaineer, whose name is known throughout the length and breadth of the alps”. True to the fame, Tuckett made many breakthrough ascents and was the first mountaineer to reach some of the most difficult and famous peaks along the alps.
First Edition. London: Edward Arnold, 1920. 8vo. Original brown publisher's cloth. Pages: xiv, 372. Numerous illustrations throughout.
Bound in original brown publisher's buckram. Gilt titling and ruling to spine. Top edge cut, others uncut. Very good. Spine mildly sunned and a few faint markings here and there to covers. Spine gilt faded. Otherwise, binding tight, sturdy, and in excellent condition. Contents in very good condition. Toning to free end papers. Strong toning to frontispiece, imprinted by original tissue guard. Very occasional spotting here and there. Otherwise, contents fresh, bright, and well preserved.
