First UK edition. London: Samson, Low, Marston, Low and Searle, 1873. 8vo. Early quarter charcoal Morocco and blue cloth hardcover. Pages: frontispiece, viii, 323, 81 illustrations throughout.

Bound in later quarter charcoal Morocco and blue cloth. Lettering on spine stamped in gilt. 5 raised bands on spine. Gilt along upper edge. Dedication from father to his son on front free end paper: "To Jimmy, With love from Daddy. Xmas 1949". Very good. Leather has been well preserved. Spine gilt still bright and bold. Cloth boards show age toning, some wearing at corners and along front foredge crease. A few markings here and there. Contents very good, minor foxing throughout. 

From the earth to the moon explores the ambitious project of the Baltimore Gun Club, aiming to launch a projectile to the moon using advances is artillery science. The novel details the planning, construction, and eventual launch of this projectile, with the aim of achieving a lunar landing. It's a story of ingenuity, adventure, and Verne's characteristic blend of scientific speculation and imaginative storytelling. 

A pioneering work, From the Earth to the Moon had a significant impact in shaping what would become the science fiction genre. It also had a direct influence on the first ever science fiction film: A Trip to the Moon, made in 1902 by George Méliès.
