Interview with the Vampire (First UK Edition)
SOLD
Rare first UK printing of Rice's debut and most famous classic. In fine condition.
The novel that is "almost single-handedly responsible for the image of vampires that dominates pop culture today".
Published in 1976 as Rice's debut novel, and based on a short story written by Rice in 1968. Famously, Rice finished the 338-page manuscript in five weeks. This book released to a mixed critical reception, and low sales led to the book failing commercially. Despite this, Rice was offered the chance to make a sequel, which saw a much more positive release, selling more than 75,000 copies in its first printing. The third in the series became an instant best seller, topping the New York Times Bestseller list.
Due to the poor reception upon release, first editions of Interview with a Vampire are quite scarce. The later cult following that built for the series pushed these copies into a highly collectible status.
Overall condition: fine. Dust jacket unclipped and fine, colours bright and beautiful. Some very faint markings and minor creasing at edges of fold-ins. Front endpaper has a marking from former adhesive. Contents fine, clean, bright, and fresh. A stunning copy of one of the most famous vampire horror novels in literary history.
First UK edition. London: Raven Books, (1976). 8vo. Original black hardcover in original unclipped dust jacket. Pages: [vi], 372.
