First edition in English (a US edition appeared the following year) of an account of the first ascent of Mount Ararat, made in 1829-30 shortly after the Caucasus came into Russian possession after the Russo-Turkish War of 1829-30.
First edition. London: Longman, Brown, Green, and Longmans, 1845. 8vo. Original full brown calf with gilt and elaborate blind tooling. Pages: [ii], xii, 375, one folding map of Circassia, Georgia, and Armenia. Wood engraving illustrations throughout.
Bound in full brown calf. Elaborate blind tooling to covers. Spine lettered and stamped in gilt and blind, titling on red Morocco panel. All edges in red. Translated by W. D. Cooley. Early previous owner's inscription inked in preliminaries. Very good. Chipping at head and foot and minor rubbing to creases of spine. Some markings and imperfections to covers. Contents in excellent condition. Some foxing to end papers.
