Overall condition: good. Dust jacket price clipped and in damaged condition. Wearing along edges and spine. Loss to jacket along fore edge creases. Foxing on front and rear inner sleeves. Original red cloth hardcover boards in very good condition. Binding is square and tight. Age toning along upper edge, particularly on spine. Small markings along edges. End papers and pages in excellent condition. Angus & Robertson seller sticker on lower front bound end paper. Foxing on front and rear end papers, as well as on upper and lower edges. 

Rare first edition with original dust jacket. Jacket illustrated by Anthony Gross. One of only 3000 copies in the first printing.  Copyright page states: "First published in mcmliv". Previous owner name on front free end paper: "G.S. Clarke 15 march 1955". 

A literary classic still taught in many education systems. Golding's first work, inarguably his best. A story delving into the depths of the human condition and how far people will go to attain power and control others. Golding was awarded the 1983 Nobel Prize in Literature for his works.
