PEAKS, PASSES, AND GLACIERS (Third Edition)

PEAKS, PASSES, AND GLACIERS (Third Edition)

Third edition of the prestigious Alpine Club’s first major publication. Printed in the same year as the first and with some minor stylistic differences inside and out. Due to the immediate popularity of the publication, subsequent editions were ordered and published within the same year.

The differences made to the 3rd edition are minor: textual corrections, amendments such as revised dates or clarified details, and some extra inclusions amounting to 16 extra pages in the volume’s length.

London: Longman, Brown, Green, Longmans, & Roberts, 1859. 8vo. Original Alpine Club publisher's cloth.  xvi, 532pp. Bound in original red-brown publisher's cloth. Gilt titling to spine. Illustrated vignette of climbers in gilt to cover. Very good. Binding tight and sturdy. Some faint darker markings across covers and spine. Very mild rubbing to corners. Contents complete and very good. Some foxing throughout, more prominent towards front. Plates printed on darker paperstock, colours still hold albeit for some marking and foxing to some. Folding maps structurally excellent: free from tearing, though with some foxing consistent with the rest of the volume.

Full Title: PEAKS, PASSES, AND GLACIERS. A Series of Excursions by Members of the Alpine Club.

Provenance: From the library of Warwick H. Williams.

Please note: This item is large and/or heavy. It may require additional postage costs to be paid. If so, we will contact you after purchase.
