Scott's Men (First Edition)

Scott's Men (First Edition)

SOLD

From the collection of Warwick H. Williams.

Comes with a wealth of original ephemera, as pictured.

An excellent first edition examining the expeditions of Robert Falcon Scott, his leadership and the characters which surrounded and influenced him. This work was amongst the first works of the later half of the twentieth century which cast doubts on Robert Falcon Scott's reputation, which had previously been glowing of a hero. It drew attention to his haphazard planning and lack of foresight; although his reputation has since been bolstered during the twenty-first century, many biographers still reason this to be true. Written by David Thomson, this work was later reissued in 2002 as 'Scott, Shackleton and Amundsen'.

Bound in original blue publisher's cloth with original unclipped dust jacket. Spine lettered in silver. W. Williams inscription and collector's sticker on FFEP. Stamp for Scot Base Geophysical Laboratory at rear. Contains twenty-eight illustrations, including portraits and photographs.

Overall condition: Excellent. Dust jacket unclipped. Binding tight and square. Minor foxing at edges. Some minor markings to endpapers. Otherwise contents clean and bright, in excellent condition.

First edition. London: Allen Lane, 1977. 8vo. Original blue cloth hardcover in original unclipped dust jacket. Pages: [xiv], 377.
